Alexander Keizer

MSc. Electrical Engineering

Hello everyone, my name is Alexander Keizer. I am currently in my second year of my master’s in Electrical Engineering at the University of Twente. For this master’s, I have chosen the specialization Integrated Circuit Design. During my bachelor’s and master’s, I have been very active within the study association and as a result have come to know many new people and learned new skills. During this time I also heard lots of stories from study tours of previous years, a lot of them positive. What really interested me was the opportunity to travel to a country such as South Korea, where the culture and surroundings are very different to the Netherlands. This reason, along with the fact that there are many companies in South Korea relevant to Electrical Engineering such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix made me very interested in this study tour.

Dion van Rijswick

MSc. Interaction Technology

My name is Dion, I first finished my bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, but for my master’s, I wanted to focus more on the product development and thus chose to do the master’s in Interaction Technology. In my first year, I first heard about the possibility to go on a study tour, but I could not join then, so when I got wind of a new study tour, I knew that I had to sign up for such a unique experience.

By participating in the study tour, I hope to learn a lot about the work environments and the differences between South Korea and the Netherlands. I want to use this knowledge to figure out in what kind of company I would like to work after I finished my master’s. I believe that South Korea will provide me with a different kind of view on the industry and will make me a better engineer.

Thijmen Hoeksma

MSc. Embedded Systems/MSc. Electrical Engineering

I have the goal of doing more than just studying, an example of this is that I am building a solar boat for the Monaco Solar & Energy Boat Challenge 2023. That is why the Study Tour to South Korea so attracted me. I personally think that South Korea is one of the most interesting countries in the field of electrical engineering. Not only because of companies like Samsung or LG, but also because of the way the electronics sector is growing so fast there. South Korea seems particularly interesting to me because of the different culture, geography and standards that prevail there. I hope to gain knowledge from this about what I would like to do later on and what the current developments are in the field of electrical engineering.

Wouter Nijenhuis

MSc. Electrical Engineering

I have just started my master’s in Electrical Engineering with a focus on lab-on-a-chip. In the first three years of my studies I finished my bachelor and did a lot of committee work at the study association Scintilla. The committee work led me to do a board year after my bachelor’s. That year taught me many skills I could have never learned in the studies. Last year I wanted to put my Electrical Engineering skills in practice, which brought me to Solar Boat Twente, a student team focusing on making an electric boat powered by solar energy. When the opportunity came to also be part of a study tour to South Korea, I could not let that pass. Again, applying my knowledge differently than in my studies during the preparations is something I’m very much looking forward to. In addition, going to a part of the world where I have never been to, with an entirely different culture and with a great impact on the technology of today is very exciting!
